Aristo Pharma is once again supporting an aid project by Pharmacists Without Borders this year. Through a donation, the company is strengthening healthcare services for refugees and displaced persons at the camp in Gateri, Burundi. In doing so, Aristo Pharma is continuing its annual commitment to the aid organization’s projects and building on its support for a Burundi project from 2022.

This year, the donation of 2,000 euros will benefit the “Emergency Aid Burundi” project. Implemented in collaboration with partner organizations Burundi Kids, the Fondation Stamm, and action medeor, the project ensures basic healthcare services at the camp in Gateri in northwestern Burundi (East Africa). More than 8,000 people from over 1,000 households live there, many of whom were forced to flee their homes due to flooding.

Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses are particularly dependent on reliable medical care due to the difficult living conditions.

The central point of contact is a medical station housed in a converted shipping container. After another aid organization ceased its operations on site, it is now the only health facility in the camp. Residents receive medical examinations, treatments, medications, and counseling there. The most common conditions treated include malaria, infections, parasitic diseases, and gastrointestinal complaints. Between January and June 2026, approximately 1,675 medical consultations were conducted.

In addition to acute medical care, the project also includes preventive health measures. These include information on hygiene and safe drinking water, protection against mosquito-borne diseases, and prenatal care. Furthermore, people who are affected by or at risk of gender-based violence are supported through counseling sessions, awareness-raising initiatives, and psychosocial services.

Aristo Pharma has been regularly supporting Pharmacists Without Borders for years with donations for various aid projects. As early as 2022, the company funded a project in Burundi focused on training pharmaceutical technical assistants in the Bujumbura metropolitan area. With this year’s support, Aristo Pharma is building on that effort and once again contributing to improving medical care for people in particularly difficult circumstances.
